A look at Boucheron &mdash; a brand of Parisian audacity, translated into precious materials. <o:p></o:p>

Boucheron has always been inclined to do things independently. Formality and tradition defined luxury jewellery when Frederic Boucheron established the Maison in Paris in 1858. The pieces were rich in symbolism and often weighed heavily on the body. Frederic wanted something more human. He wanted his creation to feel natural. He wanted it to move. Most importantly, he wanted it to belong to the individual wearing it.<o:p></o:p>
This way of thinking stemmed from observation rather than theory. Frederic Boucheron watched how women lived, dressed and moved around the city. He noticed that corsets, inflexible gowns and stiff jewellery restricted them. He paid attention to light, to architecture and to nature as it existed rather than as it was refined into ideal forms. Instead of repeating innate rules, he made subtle but long-lasting changes.<o:p></o:p>

In 1893, his instincts led him to make a decision that would shape the Maison. He launched his boutique at 26 Place Vend&ocirc;me, when the square was still residential, and Rue de la Paix was the centre of luxury. Boucheron saw what others had overlooked. Jewellery did not need to be hidden behind doors. It could exist, invisible to everyone. Within a few years, the rest of Place Vend&ocirc;me followed his lead.<o:p></o:p>
Creative director Claire Choisne&rsquo;s 2026 Histoire de Style High Jewellery line, Nom: Boucheron Prenom: Frederic, exemplifies this instinctive quality. Rather than understanding the archives as a collection of forms, Choisne views them as a record of ideas. She traces the founder&rsquo;s mentality through four key pieces, demonstrating why it remains relevant today.<o:p></o:p>

THE ADDRESS

The collection opens with Place Vend&ocirc;me itself. The Address takes its cue from an archival necklace whose pendant echoed the square&rsquo;s octagonal shape. Choisne sharpens the geometry and reduces the palette to white gold, diamonds and black lacquer. The effect is calm and thoughtful, architectural without being rigid.<o:p></o:p>
A 10.01-carat emerald-cut diamond rests in the middle, surrounded by layers of stones that lure the eye in. The construction is what makes it sophisticated. The collar is made of articulated elements that appear seamless when worn, allowing the necklace to flow gently around the neck. Even the baguette diamonds have been recut and orientated to match the body&rsquo;s shape. The central motif can be detached and worn as a ring, a small but telling reminder that transformation has always been part of Boucheron&rsquo;s thinking.<o:p></o:p>

THE SPARK

The Question Mark necklace perfectly captures Frederic Boucheron&rsquo;s sensitivity to the body. The first clasp-less necklace in High Jewellery was introduced in 1879. Its asymmetrical form and concealed spring mechanism allowed it to be easily slid on, freeing the wearer from assistance and the stiffness that distinguished so much jewellery of the period.<o:p></o:p>
The Spark revisits this idea with restraint and clarity. Choisne translates the original principle into a sequence of graphic diamond cuts that follow the curve of the necklace. Each stone feels intentional, leading to a 5.01-carat kite-cut diamond that anchors the composition. Balance was essential to the whole process. Weight and movement had to be immaculately tuned to retain the ease that made the original so forward-thinking. The finished piece feels composed and dynamic, as if it were intended to move with the wearer rather than sit aside from them.<o:p></o:p>

THE SILHOUETTE<o:p></o:p>

Jewellery and clothing were inextricably linked for Frederic Boucheron. As the son of a draper, he had an inherent comprehension of fabric. He thought in terms of drape, proportion and movement. Jewellery, for him, was another element of dress.<o:p></o:p>
The Silhouette is the most technically ambitious piece in the collection and the one that best reflects this outlook. Crafted in white gold and diamonds, it can be worn in six different ways, shifting from necklace to shoulder adornment and from choker to bracelets. Invisible clasps and finely engineered articulations allow the jewel to divide and reconnect without a visual gap.<o:p></o:p>
More than seven metres of bezel-set diamonds lend the item a softness reminiscent of textile work, while rows of baguette diamonds add structure. Exhibiting personality, adaptability, and understated calmness, the gemstone tightly follows the contours of the body, reacting to movement rather than opposing it.<o:p></o:p>

THE UNTAMED<o:p></o:p>

Nature is essential to Boucheron, albeit Frederic Boucheron looked at it differently than his predecessors. While others preferred idealised flowers and beautiful shapes, he was drawn to what was disregarded. He studied flora and insects extensively and chose to show them exactly as they were.<o:p></o:p>
For example, ivy held particular significance for him. It was frequently considered obtrusive or inelegant, but it symbolised perseverance and freedom. It twists, climbs and expands without seeking permission.<o:p></o:p>
The Untamed communicates this vision to the present. Choisne recreates the original ivy Question Mark necklace, lengthening it and redesigning its structure for modern usage. Diamonds outline the stem and leaves, while rock crystal fruits offer lightness and depth. Each part is individually mounted, carefully positioned to provide balance and free motion. The necklace can be worn in a variety of ways, including as a long or short Question Mark, collar, brooch, or hair decoration.<o:p></o:p>
There is a sense of life in the piece. Leaves seem to shake; forms change subtly; and the gem appears to be flowing even when it is not. It aptly expresses Frederic Boucheron&rsquo;s notion that nature should not be idealised, but rather observed and translated with honesty.<o:p></o:p>

All in all, the four pieces represent more than a collection. They serve as a means of viewing Boucheron as a Maison driven by ideas rather than nostalgia. Claire Choisne makes no attempt to modernise the founder&rsquo;s notion with Nom: Boucheron Prenom: Frederic. More than a century later, Boucheron continues to ask the same questions Frederic Boucheron asked at the beginning: How should jewellery feel on the body? How should it move? How closely should it follow the life of the person wearing it?<o:p></o:p>
