From its secluded setting to its attentive service, the hotel offers a composed take on luxury accommodation.

Set on a sheltered bay at the south eastern edge of the island, The St. Regis Langkawi introduces Langkawi at its most composed. The 30-minute drive from the airport moved steadily from town to dense greenery, ending at a discreet checkpoint and a shaded courtyard that immediately changes the pace. Upon arrival, luggage were taken care, check in happened while seated rather than standing, and a welcome drink arrived as if on cue.

The layout of the resort emphasises this sense of order. A central building is flanked by two wings, with a small number of villas set over the lagoon, all positioned to maximise views of the bay and surrounding wilderness. The facility exudes an air of intention rather than sprawl, thanks to its modest 89 rooms comprised of 85 suites and 4 overwater villas. The common areas are spacious and lively making it easy for guests&nbsp;to want to linger around.

Accommodation takes the same&nbsp;attitude. Interiors are contemporary comfortability, with a focus on stone, wood, and neutral colours rather than trying to be overtly decorative. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook either the sea or the jungle, and the proportions are ample throughout. Suites&nbsp;elevate&nbsp;the experience with private plunge pools, huge balconies, and spacious bathrooms designed to provide enhance&nbsp;relaxation. Butler service plays an important role, working discreetly in the background to handle practical concerns such as clothing pressing, reservations, and daily arrangements without disrupting the flow of a stay.

Dining is sophisticated and consistent. The Lang Mary, the hotel&rsquo;s version of the Bloody Mary, combines spiciness with pandan, tamarind, and lemongrass. Guided by their experts, we had fun concocting a version of the drink according to our own preference at The St. Regis Bar. Kayuputi, located at the end of a jetty, becomes an ideal spot for socialising in the early evening, offering uninterrupted views across the water. The menu focuses on European techniques and regional products. Guests looking for traditional Malaysian cuisine will have more options elsewhere on the island, but the quality here remains outstanding. Breakfast is a delight at L&rsquo;Orangerie, with a huge buffet, delicious nasi lemak, and unhurried champagne on offer. As for us, we were privileged enough to get to enjoy a 7-course modern French menu by Michelin-starred Chef Christophe Lerouy of LEROUY, Singapore, and Executive Chef Unaver of Kayuputi, paired with Billecart-Salmon champagnes, no less!

Leisure areas are well-integrated into the natural surroundings. The multi-level pool encourages lengthy afternoons, the 600-metre pristine white sand beach overlooking the Andaman Sea, and the treatments at The St. Regis Spa provides treatments that are both thoughtful and relaxing. Overall, The St. Regis Langkawi excels due to its uncomplicated direction and goal. It is a resort distinguished not by frills, but by having a strong sense of place.
