Maximilian Davis upgrades Hollywood glamour with hints of contemporaneity for his debut Ferragamo pieces.

A change of leadership often prompts a change of previously established rules and practices. Case in point: ahead of Maximilian Davis&rsquo;s debut Spring/Summer 2023 show for Salvatore Ferragamo during Milan Fashion Week last year, the creative director refreshed the Florentine house&rsquo;s logo to FERRAGAMO in simple serif font against deep, emotive red background and cleaned its Instagram account up for images of the new logo, a sparkly super car and a red suede sandal.&nbsp;
Reenergising Ferragamo&rsquo;s Hollywood history, &ldquo;I wanted to pay homage to the beginning of Salvatore's journey by bringing Hollywood culture scene, of the new Hollywood. Its sensuality and its simplicity, its sunsets and its dawns,&rdquo; Davis expresses in the show notes. For the new era, a male and female wardrobe was consisted of knits, silk and layers of organza detailed with suede sandals and polished accessories.
Davis&rsquo;s vision was portrayed through wide-woven knits, transparent dresses, and mini shorts which exuded nonchalant charm with everyday staples such as red tank tops, polo shirts and nylon raincoats dominating the collection, not to mention garments embellished with crystals that recalled the shimmering red shoes Ferragamo made for Marilyn Monroe in 1959. Trench coats and, glossy leather vests and jackets took on a utilitarian style.
The tuxedo was presented in innovative interpretation: shirting cut in silk organza and cotton poplin; collars or sleeves removed. Davis gave the top-handle Wanda bag (named after Salvatore&rsquo;s wife) sleek new proportions &ndash; and introduced a new cut-out tote bag. In addition to shade of red, the collection references colours of sunrises and sunsets on degrad&eacute; prints and hand-dyed fabrics, from white to indigo, yellow to sky blue.

&ldquo;It relates to Ferragamo, to Hollywood, to the ocean &ndash; but also to me, and to my own DNA,&rdquo; says Davis of the collection. &ldquo;I wanted to show that perspective, but now through the Ferragamo lens.&rdquo;
