My quest to tackle those post-breakout scars at Astute Clinic took an&nbsp;unexpected turn for even better.&nbsp;

Living with acne-prone&nbsp;skin is not the end of the&nbsp;world, but it&rsquo;s not a walk&nbsp;in the park either. It feels&nbsp;like constantly bracing&nbsp;yourself for the unexpected&nbsp;and never quite sure about&nbsp;how wild things could go.&nbsp;My usually well-behaved,&nbsp;breakout-prone skin was&nbsp;taken back to its teenage&nbsp;woes during the infamous&nbsp;2020, aka the lockdown and mask era. With the regular facial&nbsp;appointments I relied on to keep my skin in check suddenly&nbsp;becoming out of reach, I was left to navigate the frustration alone,&nbsp;which understandably left my skin with post-breakout marks.
Fast forward to now, after a rollercoaster of trials, my skin is&nbsp;much more under control (hopefully I don&rsquo;t jinx it) &mdash; thanks&nbsp;to having a better understanding of my skin and a right,&nbsp;consistent skincare regime. However, if there&rsquo;s one thing I&nbsp;can&rsquo;t fully make peace with, it&rsquo;s the lingering reminders of the&nbsp;breakout. So, when I had the chance to consult with Dr Jason&nbsp;Yip at Astute Clinic regarding those scars and pigmentations,&nbsp;I jumped at it.
I arrived at the clinic without a clue of what treatment to&nbsp;pursue and decided to simply trust the doctor&rsquo;s expertise for&nbsp;guidance. Dr Yip and his team made me feel comfortable from&nbsp;the minute I stepped into the clinic. He sat me down and I&nbsp;shared the reasons behind my visit and my skin history. He&nbsp;then dived into my diet, sleep habits and stress levels &mdash; like&nbsp;a holistic lifestyle check-in. The thorough assessment assured&nbsp;me that the doctor&rsquo;s approach went beyond addressing my&nbsp;immediate concerns and instead focused on enhancing the&nbsp;overall health and well-being of my skin.

Dr Yip concluded that my condition of adult acne can sometimes&nbsp;be triggered by factors such as hormones, stress and dairy.&nbsp;&ldquo;Preventing scarring is the top priority in treating acne,&rdquo; he&nbsp;emphasised and then revealed an exciting improved approach to&nbsp;treating the scars. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re moving away from the conventional&nbsp;lasers to something equally good, if not better, with less&nbsp;downtime and risk.&rdquo; And that something is Sylfirm X, which&nbsp;&ldquo;essentially, brings together the technology of microneedling&nbsp;with radiofrequency (RF) energy.&rdquo; With controlled injury and heat, this minimally invasive RF microneedling&nbsp;treatment encourages the production of collagen&nbsp;and elastin to deliver an all-encompassing&nbsp;rejuvenation. Dr Yip confidently and factually&nbsp;detailed what I can expect from a single session:&nbsp;refined pores, improved texture, reduced redness&nbsp;and even skin tone.

After getting my &ldquo;before&rdquo; photos taken, I made&nbsp;my way to the treatment room. Here, Dr Yip&rsquo;s&nbsp;assistant coated my face with numbing cream,&nbsp;followed by a 20-minute wait for the cream&nbsp;to take effect before the RF microneedling&nbsp;procedure. During my session, Dr Yip made two&nbsp;passes. The first&nbsp;covered my entire face, giving an overall boost&nbsp;that smoothed and brightened my complexion;&nbsp;the second targeted the troubled areas, reaching&nbsp;deeper into the skin to break down scar fibres and&nbsp;stimulate collagen. I did feel a tingling sensation throughout&nbsp;the process but I wouldn&rsquo;t call it discomfort. Wrapping up my&nbsp;treatment, Dr Yip&rsquo;s assistant gently applied antiseptic to my&nbsp;skin and topped it off with a layer of liposome. I left the clinic with my face slightly puffy and&nbsp;red, but it wasn&rsquo;t a big deal because it faded&nbsp;within 2-3 hours. The aftercare, true to&nbsp;Dr Yip&rsquo;s words, has also been a breeze.&nbsp;Following his advice, I&rsquo;ve been diligently&nbsp;moisturising and sticking to my usual&nbsp;sunscreen routine. Now, three weeks since I&nbsp;had my first Sylfirm X,&nbsp;treatment, I&rsquo;ve witnessed&nbsp;some notable transformations. The first that came&nbsp;to my attention is the pores &mdash; they are refined&nbsp;and no longer stealing the show. The complexion,&nbsp;once dull and inconsistent, now appears more&nbsp;even with healthy radiance, and the skin feels&nbsp;firmer, softer to the touch too! Whilst my&nbsp;depressed scars didn&rsquo;t make a miraculous exit&nbsp;after a single treatment session (let&rsquo;s be realistic),&nbsp;they&rsquo;re visibly softened. During my second&nbsp;appointment for a skin check, Dr Yip suggested&nbsp;adding a retinol cream to my PM routine, and&nbsp;I&rsquo;m genuinely looking forward to seeing the results it willbring, in addition to my treatment.
