This marks Chanel’s le19M maiden voyage outside of Paris.

This autumn, Chanel's celebrated la Galerie du 19M ventures beyond Paris for the first time, unveiling le19M Shanghai at the Museum of Art Pudong, come September 25th till November 15th, 2026. Occupying the museum's entire third floor, the landmark cultural project brings together French and Chinese artists and artisans in a celebration of craftsmanship, creativity, and cultural exchange.<o:p></o:p>
Founded by the Chanel back in 2021, le19M is home to 11 renowned maisons d'art and nearly 700 artisans dedicated to preserving and advancing the métiers d'art. In Shanghai, visitors are first immersed in the extraordinary savoir-faire of these historic ateliers through an installation by Studio Adrien Gardère, offering an intimate look at the techniques, materials, as well as gestures that continue to shape contemporary fashion and design.<o:p></o:p>

At the heart of the programme is “A Sense of Touch” (触碰 Chù Pèng), a major exhibition curated by Gong Yan, Lin Tianmiao, Zhang Lei, and Christelle Kocher. By showcasing the works by leading artists and artisans from China and France, the exhibition explores touch as a language of creation and connection, spanning textiles, embroidery, ceramics, lacquer, bamboo weaving and installation art. More than a tribute to heritage, it presents craft as a living practice that is continually redefined through dialogue, experimentation, and the meeting of cultures.

Complementing the exhibition is Lesage. 100 Years of Fashion and Decoration – a newly conceived showcase honouring the centenary of Maison Lesage. Developed with Émilie Hammen, the exhibition traces a century of embroidery excellence while celebrating the enduring creative relationship between Lesage, Chanel, and China's rich artistic traditions.<o:p></o:p>
Extending beyond the gallery walls, a vibrant programme of talks, guided tours, plus hands-on workshops invites visitors to engage directly with the Métiers d'art, reinforcing le19M's enduring commitment to transmission and creative exchange. Together with a striking visual identity conceived by Éric Pillault and Ying Lei – centred around the poetic symbolism of the kite as a bridge between cultures – la Galerie du 19M Shanghai reaffirms the French maison's belief that exceptional craftsmanship is not simply heritage to be preserved, but a living force that continues to inspire the future.<o:p></o:p>
