Serpenti Aeterna is Bvlgari&rsquo;s way of asking what happens when the serpent is stripped down to its essence. The creature, so to speak, is still there, coiled around the wrist but distilled into cleaner lines and a sharper aesthetic. Rather than a nostalgia trip, it&rsquo;s about refining an icon.<o:p></o:p>
The rose gold reference goes all in. Rubellite, amethyst, topaz, emerald, citrine, sapphire, tanzanite, pink and Paraiba tourmaline, tsavorite, and peridot are packed so tightly that the piece almost oozes light. Different cuts and different sizes ensure the surface never sits still. It&rsquo;s certainly loud, but not in an annoying way.<o:p></o:p>What is clever is the discipline underneath. The silhouette stays tight and recognisable. The gem-set dial and stylised head are graphic, almost architectural. The bracelet contains openworked hexagons underneath, which allow light to pass through, which, in turn, provide the stones room to breathe. On the wrist, it appears like a sculpture, with each element earning its place.

Then there is the yellow gold. It&rsquo;s naturally more of a piece of jewellery than a statement. Diamonds sit at the bangle ends, the head, and the tail. The mother-of-pearl dial catches light gently. It doesn&rsquo;t try as hard, but the tension in that coiled shape keeps it from going slack.<o:p></o:p>
Line and volume &ndash; the whole collection works because it treats the serpent as a pure design problem. It&rsquo;s rebuilt through colour and craft until it reads as precise but alive.
