In celebration of a new beginning for the Lunar calendar this coming February 2019, Chopard presents the Chopard L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Pig watch

A limited edition timepiece with only 88 pieces produced worldwide, the masterpiece represents the most refined expression of Swiss watchmaking, crafted with the ancestral Japanese art of lacquerware.

Here we round up the three things you need to know about Chopard's L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Pig:

1. The Dial & The Golden Pig

In oriental culture, the pig is depicted as the symbol of sincerity, consideration as well as generosity.

So, to celebrate the year of pig, Chopard showcases a golden pig in a lush forest where flowers bloom, indicating the abundance and joviality in a prosperous year, on the dial of its L.U.C XP watch.

And if you have noticed, the piggy is given a lovely protruding tummy to symbolise prosperity for the year ahead.

2. The Urushi Lacquering Technique

The entirely hand-crafted dial for the watch utilises a form of Japanese noble ancestral art of lacquer technique, which is known as 'Urushi'.

Made using the rare resin of Urushi tree, which takes three to five years to be treated into a highly resistant, honey-textured lacquer, the varnish enhances the dimension and beauty of this stunning timepiece.

3. The Exceptional Horological Expertise

As a new addition to the prestigious L.U.C XP collection that is loved for its ultra-thin automatic movement, the new model features a L.U.C 96.17-L calibre, which is entirely developed and manufactured by Chopard.

The best part is that the calibre can be admired through the transparent sapphire case-back of the case crafted from 18-carat rose gold.

And you can get your hands on this amazing beauty very soon at the price of US $25,600 (approx. RM 100,000).
