When we think about New York, Coach is definitely one of the staple fashion names we think of and in the hands of Stuart Vevers, the brand has taken major steps since his tenure.
This Spring/Summer 2020, instead of soft florals and pastel charm, Vevers puts us into the ultimate “New York State Of Mind” with an electric and cool collection, inspired by the vibrancy of the 80s – a perfect kick-starter for the new decade.
As the first model stormed the runway, which is on the Spur and Coach Passage (the newest sections of the High Line, one of which is created in the name of Coach), dressed in a flaming red leather coat overlaid with pastel scarf and paired with leather sandals, we know that the show is about to be turned up.
True enough, a bright collision of colours, prints and illustrations take over the entire atmosphere as the Human League blasted out of boom speakers scattered through the High Line.
Light, soft and supple, the leather within this collection came through with new proportions that illustrate the brilliance and cool aesthetics that Coach is trying to portray in 2020.
Not to forget the string of pop legends – Michael J. Fox, Barbra Streisand, and Rob Lowe – who made appearances on the runway through energetic pop illustrations of Richard Bernstein in forms of t-shirts, sweaters and tank tops – further cementing that new image of Coach.
Putting the ready-to-wear collection aside, the Spring/Summer 2020 collection is also about celebrating the Coach leather heritage and legacy – which started with the pop-up retail space “The Coach Originals” that was opened throughout the New York Fashion Week period in September.
Diving into the archives once again, Vevers brings new silhouettes to the game, which serves as a refreshing take in the sea of micro bags we see right now. Notably, the Hutton is our favourite on the runway and proven to be absolutely cool because Jennifer Lopez herself is spotted strutting hers in the Coach Spring/Summer 2020 advertising campaign. Spot on!

And as all fashion show goes, Coach did not pull their brakes when it comes to their front-row stars, where we spotted the biggest A-listers from across the globe – from Hollywood's Michael B Jordan, Zoey Deutch and Megan Thee Stallion to Thailand's Thanapob Leeratanakachorn, Indonesia's Luna Maya and our two Malaysian rep Fazura and Joe Flizzow.
