The halls of Seoul's acclaimed Ewha Womans University were alive with the spirit of old and new Dior, as the storied French luxury brand showcased Maria Grazia Chiuri's pre-fall collection at its first-ever show in the South Korean capital.

There is no question that brands and designers have been attempting to infuse contemporary collections with an essence of tradition and Dior did just that with its Pre-Fall 2022 collection. Effortlessly picking up on current street-style trends and injecting them with the maison&rsquo;s signatures, the looks blended the past and present, displaying an exciting, invigoratingly youthful edge imbued with the House's iconically timeless aura.&nbsp;&nbsp;

With immaculate tailoring and clean lines, classic fabrics and the instantly recognisable Cannage motif, Dior's DNA was ever-present as deliciously classy, luxe, charcoal grey tweed mingled with the crispness of white and the edginess of black, combining timeless tradition with modernity and just the right sprinkle of street-chic, via the almost provocative addition of peek-a-boo lace.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Looks 40, 47 and 51 presented an ingenious play on Dior's New Look, refashioning elements of the House's famed silhouette into contemporary ensembles. Look 40 echoed Dior's elegance, presenting an utterly sophisticated, grey wool tweed, belted midi dress with front button closure. A tonal belt with rock-star-esque, circular eyelet rivet accents cinched in the waist to create the iconic, flared, New Look shape, while black lace detail peeking out at the bottom added a touch of sensuality and an almost cheeky twist to the demure garment. The A-line shape that the maison made famous was seen replicated again in two other grey wool tweed centred looks, look 47 presented a statement tweed coat cinched at the waist to once again, create the New Look, flared silhouette while look 51 showcased a preppy blazer and mini skirt twinset with a gentler, pleated A-line skirt.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Nothing screams '90s schoolgirl-like plaid and the standout print of the collection came in the form of a vibrant, Clueless inspired, yellow and black plaid textile that perfectly juxtaposed the preppiness of the schoolgirl look with the edgy rebellion of early '00s pop-punk. The looks were teamed with skinny ties, evocative of '50s and 60's rock, lending to the old-school but making it contemporary feel of the collection.&nbsp;&nbsp; The preppy-edgy contrast began with look 7, which featured a right-on-trend, oversized bomber jacket teamed with a crisp, white shirt and skinny black tie. The jacket was cleverly cut to fall right where the shorts of the ensemble ended, adding a touch of cutesy to the more masculine feel look. Looks 9 and 10 presented more girlish silhouettes that incorporated pleated skirts, these were teamed with high socks and black boots for a punk-rock twist.&nbsp; The schoolgirl looks extended to the black and white looks in the collection, with looks 54 and 59 presenting fresh takes on the pinafore dress. Look 54 revealed a black, button front, midi-length dress layered on top of a white shirt and cinched at the waist with a black belt adorned with metal eyelets while look 59 saw a leather variation of the pinafore that injected the characteristically preppy garment with a major shot of rock-and-roll.&nbsp;

Dipping into its historical archives once again, Dior whisked us back to yesteryear, taking inspiration from its Spring/Summer 1947 collection that featured a silk-chiffon evening gown and day dress, both of which were adorned with the feisty yet incredibly glamorous print. This marked a turning point in the motif's history as it was when leopard as a print &ndash; &nbsp;rather than a fur &ndash; &nbsp;began emerging as a style trend.&nbsp; &nbsp; The eye-catching, retro-feel pattern played an important role in the collection's theme of blending the old with the new as it featured on possibly the most street style-esque looks in the line-up, dressing sporty jackets with varsity stripe cuffs that lent a luxe, vintage-athleisure feel to looks 35 and 36. Both of these looks were accessorised with high-top sneakers and Dior's new Dior Vibe bag for a contemporary sportswear touch. Leopard also lent a touch of street style to look 25, putting a fun twist on the collection's school-girl theme with an oversized, leopard print bomber jacket and baseball cap.&nbsp;
