After shooting to stardom on Nur, Syafiq Kyle is all set to broaden his acting horizons and show you a different side of him.

A model-cum-actor abounding in charm, good looks, talent and energy, Syafiq Kyle (<a href="https://www.instagram.com/syafiqkylez/">@syafiqkylez</a>)&nbsp;is as equally at ease in front of the camera as he is strutting down the runway and striking a pose. Unbowed by complacency, he is giving the entertainment industry a new definition, one performance at a time. Syafiq attributes hard work to his current success.

After awarded first runner-up at Hero Remaja 2012, he took every role (no matter how minor) he could get his hands on to refine and define his craft. Today, his challenge is finding good scripts. Far from merely acting, it&rsquo;s more like a way of creating a sincerely profound and thought-provoking performance that spark conversations &ndash; a dedication to artistry which infuses all his works.

Ultimately, there is a fine line between fulfilling your expectation and that of your fans.

First things first, congratulations on winning multiple prestigious awards again last year. Does it get boring? 

Thank you! But no, not at all. Every award means something to me and each of them tells a different story about my journey as an actor. Oh, and I get to play dress up when attending the awards shows. How could that be boring? [Laughs]

Do you have a favourite past project?

I treat each project as my own baby, my own soul. Just like your own kids, you neither want to play favourites nor put any label on them. What I can say is that, Nur opened up so many doors for me, especially as an actor who was exploring the industry.

And which is the one project you regret taking part in?

Even if I have taken up certain projects that weren&rsquo;t up to my expectation, I choose to view them as challenges to learn improve myself; not everything always goes the way you planned.

What do you look for when choosing a role?

One that excites me; the recognition that comes afterwards is a bonus. A lot of people recognise me as Ustaz Adam because the character I played in the Nur and Nur 2 drama series, which have really boosted my acting career. Nowadays, I&rsquo;m constantly opting for roles that are different so I don&rsquo;t get bored, and at the same time, I&rsquo;m also challenging myself and progressing as an actor. Recently, I played an effeminate character called Shiba. And it was fun!

How do you prepare for a role?

Study, study and study some more. I study the script like no tomorrow! It sounds kind of over the top but I really put myself into the character&rsquo;s shoes way before I start filming.

How does playing a part transform the image you have of yourself and how others perceive you?

It feels kind of overwhelming at first, however slowly but surely, I have gotten accustomed to it. I still remember when Nur became a hit series couple of years ago, people would call me Ustaz Adam instead of my actual name whenever and wherever they saw me.

It&rsquo;s crazy in the sense that how a simple character can have such tremendous effect on the identity of a&nbsp;person, so I guess the role you play does give people a different perspective about who you really are.

&nbsp;

How would you describe yourself as an actor?

One who is laid-back, but full of ideas and energy.

&nbsp;

Which actor did you use to admire growing up?

Looking back on my younger days, I always look up to established actors like Rosyam Nor as inspiration. During that time, it felt as though it&rsquo;d be impossible for someone like me to ever reach his status. And then along that way I learned I shouldn&rsquo;t underestimate myself. It just goes to show that where there&rsquo;s a will, there&rsquo;s a definitely way. I will try my best to maintain what I have achieved so far, and of course, keep getting better at doing what I&rsquo;m doing.

Is there a character that you haven&rsquo;t yet played, but would like to?

Maybe a character that requires me to sing, but I&rsquo;d definitely need to go through a lot of intensive vocal classes first. [Laughs]

Are you working on anything exciting right now, or in the near future, that you can share with us?

We just wrapped up Polis Evo 3, which will hit the theatres very soon (it&rsquo;s scheduled to release in August as of now)!

How do films influence society and vice versa in today&rsquo;s society?

I treat the industry as a simple symbiosis. Filmmakers need their audience and the audience need their entertainment. If a producer can produce a good film, people will go out and spend money to watch it &ndash; and that in turn will encourage other filmmakers to up their game and produce more good films.

What is the biggest misconception that you&rsquo;ve encountered about you from the public?

Some people might think that I&rsquo;m a quiet person, but once you get to know me, I can talk all day long! [Laughs]

&nbsp;

You&rsquo;re a man who put effort into your appearance. What do you find so compelling about fashion?

Fashion, in essence, is an external layer you put on yourself that reflects who you are. If you want to give the impression that you&rsquo;re a fun person, you can show people through it; if you want to give the impression that you&rsquo;re the boss of the day, you can show people through it too. Like it or not, people will initially judge you (especially when meeting for the first time) before getting to know you.

What is your personal life like?

Not much different compared to everyone. On days when I&rsquo;m busy, I spend most of my time on set. When I get some free time, I like going to the gym or playing soccer.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Singing in the shower! [Laughs]
